PERU: New stumbling blocks in Humala's path

A new blow to the candidacy of the nationalist Ollanta Humala was delivered last week by former spy chief Vladimiro Montesinos, when he corroborated rumours that Humala's celebrated October 2000 military uprising against President Alberto Fujimori had been a charade devised to distract attention from Montesinos's flight abroad. On top of that, Humala lost points when he turned up 15 minutes late to a televised debate with his rival Alan Garcí­a.
